Happy Birthday Renate

Today, at Y&FH we are celebrating and wishing our very own Yumi (aka Renate) the happiest of birthdays!

Using a very cool idea from fellow DT member Sheena, the entire DT made a banner for Renate and every hour a different letter was posted until every letter was shown. You can see the numerous posts and banner HERE. I had the opportunity to make two of the banner pieces and am proud to say that most of the materials used were gifted to me by Yumi and Fumi. I thought it would be fun to incorporate them into the banner.

I haven't had the opportunity to meet Renate, but if I ever get to California I will give her a holler and hopefully have the chance to chat with her. I'm guessing she really is as sweet and sincere in person as she appears to be through online correspondence.

Our newest challenge at Yumi & Fumi Handmade is a Sketch Challenge which ends 

January 31st....so hurry!  

I had the hardest time figuring out what to do with this sketch because I was very determined to use this fabulous paper, which came with this adorable sentiment that begged to be used.....

The heart placement on the sketch reminds me of Valentine's Day, which makes me think of my college-aged daughter  She comes home from J-term this week and goodness, I can't tell you how nice it will be nice to see her.

As the journal sat on my craft desk I would add a little bit of this and a little bit of that, a gem here  and a gem there .... maybe even two gems. Here is an even more sketchy, artsy, updated picture of the journal cover using Summer Fumi.

I can't wait to give it to my daughter for Valentine's Day, along with some lovin' and some chocolate!

For my project I surrounded Summer Chuckles in blue, aqua, beads, shells, bling, and water....can you guess which are my fav embellies and colors? FYI...ALL of them!!

Y&FH Thursday Share

 

 

I love dabbling with different products....mixing this and stamping that...and am always looking for fun and creative ways to use all of the products I've accumulated over time.  With my daughter recently having gone away to college I like to send her a note every once in a while and as easy as it is to make her a card, it's too much fun to sit and make her some interesting "stationary."

 

I started with a plain piece of college ruled notebook paper and stamped Yumi and Fumi.

 

Chinese symbols for child, mother, and love were added.  A foam heart was inked, then stamped.

 

Washi tape was added, along with a few hearts from a Heidi Swap stencil.

 The sentiments are from a TGF set.



Hello was stamped, then Gelato's and distress stains were applied.

 

Watercolor pencils and doodling finish the note paper.


I'm sure my daughter is happy to receive her gussied up notebook paper, but I'm thinking she's probably looking for a little more "green" to go along with it...if you know what I mean.

I hope you had fun seeing another way to use these adorable Y&FH stamps and you've been inspired to create a project of your own, if so....we'd love for you to share it with us on our Y&FH FB page.

Y&FH #24 Make a Christmas Tag

I know you don't want to be on Santa's NAUGHTY list because you used store bought tags during the holidays this year! Don't worry, you have plenty of time to stay on his NICE list by joining the current challenge that's going on right now at Yumi & Fumi Handmade....which is their Make a Christmas Tag challenge.

 

 

I used Winter Yumi and just a few small embellishments, including brads that say Naughty and Nice from OTC. The Naughty and Nice sentiment was repeatedly stamped using TGF's Clear Christmas set. The ribbon on top of the tag also says Naughty and Nice. As you can see, I'm not going to be on Santa's bad side this year!
